Trunk or Treat at Lake Ridge Village with the Greater East Dallas Chamber and The Acts of Joy Project

Families, vendors, and a real Batmobile filled Lake Ridge Village for Trunk or Treat with the Greater East Dallas Chamber and The Acts of Joy Project. Here’s how we captured the night.

A Night Built for the Community

Tonight we covered Trunk or Treat at Lake Ridge Village with the Greater East Dallas Chamber and The Acts of Joy Project. It was one of those events that reminds you why local work matters. Families showed up in costume. Vendors brought their best. And yes, there was a Batmobile.

Lake Ridge Village sits at the corner of Walnut Hill and Audelia in Lake Highlands. It’s a neighborhood shopping center, which made it the perfect setting. Families could walk the lot, hit every trunk, and stop by the shops along the way.

Dallas Media Company handled event photography for the night. Our job was simple on paper. Capture the energy, the people, and the partners who made it happen. In practice, a Halloween event with kids, candy, and a superhero car is anything but simple. That’s what makes it fun.

Why Community Events Deserve Real Coverage

I’ve been shooting events since 2012. I’ve worked esports arenas, corporate conferences, and documentary sets. Some of my favorite work still happens at neighborhood events like this one.

Here’s why. Community events only happen once. There’s no second take on a kid seeing a Batmobile for the first time. There’s no reshoot of a vendor’s best interaction of the night. If nobody captures it well, it’s gone.

Chambers and nonprofits run on relationships. Good photos help them show sponsors, members, and future attendees what their investment actually looks like. A strong gallery does more than document. It builds momentum for next year.

What We Captured

Vendor Booth Activations

Vendors put real effort into their trunks and booths. Decorations, giveaways, themed setups. Our focus was showing those businesses in action, not just their tables.

When I shoot activations, I look for three things:

  • The setup itself, shot clean and wide so the vendor has a usable brand photo
  • Real interaction between vendors and families
  • Small details like signage, branded giveaways, and creative decorations

A photo of an empty booth tells you nothing. A photo of a business owner handing candy to a kid in a dinosaur costume tells you everything about who they are in this community.

For Chamber members, this matters. Many of the businesses that set up tonight serve the same families who walked through the lot. Those photos become proof that they show up for their neighbors.

Kids Trunk or Treating

This was the heart of the night. Costumes ranged from homemade to full production quality. The excitement was constant.

Photographing kids at events takes patience. You can’t pose them. You don’t want to. The best moments come when they forget you’re there. I stay low, shoot at their eye level, and keep moving. Shooting from adult height makes kids look small and distant. Getting down to their level puts the viewer right in the moment with them.

Lighting was a factor as the evening went on. Fall events lose daylight fast, and a parking lot doesn’t give you much to work with once the sun drops. We planned for that and adjusted so the later images still feel warm and alive.

The Batmobile

The Acts of Joy Project brought out the Batmobile. It drew a crowd all night.

I’ll be honest. This was a highlight for me too. Vehicles like this are photogenic on their own, but the real story was the reactions. Kids staring. Parents pulling out phones. Little caped crusaders posing next to the real thing.

My approach with a showpiece like this is to shoot it two ways. First, the hero shots of the car itself. Then the human shots around it. The car gets attention. The people around it give it meaning.

About The Acts of Joy Project

The Acts of Joy Project brings moments of happiness to the community. Showing up with the Batmobile at a family event fits that mission perfectly.

About the Greater East Dallas Chamber

The Greater East Dallas Chamber connects local businesses with the neighborhoods they serve. Events like Trunk or Treat give members a chance to meet families face to face. Find upcoming events and membership info at eastdallaschamber.com.

What Organizers Can Learn From Events Like This

After covering a lot of community events, a few things stand out about the ones that work.

  • Pick a walkable venue where families can move freely, like a neighborhood shopping center
  • Give vendors a reason to engage, not just a table to sit behind
  • Have one big attraction that pulls the crowd together, like a Batmobile
  • Plan for the light, especially for evening events in the fall
  • Invest in coverage so you have content for sponsors, members, and next year’s promotion

The organizers tonight checked every one of those boxes.

Thank You
