Overview

Dallas Media Company was credentialed as official press for Next In The District: Autumn Renaissance, FWD Fashion Group’s signature runway-meets-marketplace event. The assignment was to photograph a live designer competition, document a fast-moving runway show featuring emerging talent, and translate one night into a body of imagery that could carry the event’s story long after the lights came down.

This wasn’t a shoot-and-go vendor job. It was photographic coverage built to serve a mission amplifying underrepresented designers and giving FWD Fashion Group a press-grade archive of one of Dallas’s most distinctive fashion nights.

The Client

FWD Fashion Group exists to empower and elevate emerging fashion designers and creatives, equipping them with the tools, resources, and community they need to compete and win in the fashion industry. Their work centers on mentorship, entrepreneurship training, and creative support with a deliberate focus on amplifying and celebrating underrepresented voices.

Their vision is a thriving, inclusive fashion industry where diverse talent leads in innovation and influence. Through strategic partnerships, networking, and resource sharing, FWD Fashion Group is working to break down the barriers that have historically kept emerging designers out of the spotlight, and to build a sustainable future for them.

Covering an event for an organization like this carries a responsibility beyond pretty pictures. The imagery has to honor the people in front of the lens and reflect the inclusivity the brand stands for.

The Event

Next In The District: Autumn Renaissance is Dallas’s premier emerging-designer showcase; a one-of-a-kind experience that blends a competitive runway with a curated creative marketplace. The October 15, 2025 edition at On The Levee brought together designers, industry leaders, tastemakers, and the broader Dallas creative community for an immersive celebration of fashion’s future.

The evening’s centerpiece was a high-energy designer competition, with the winning team taking home a $5,000 grant to invest in their craft. Surrounding it: a curated runway show spotlighting diverse and bold fashion talent, a vibrant marketplace of vendor booths spanning fashion, beauty, lifestyle, and creative brands, and exclusive VIP experiences including early entry, reserved seating, and personalized engraved items.

For the people in the room, it was a movement redefining the Dallas fashion scene. For us, it was a layered, high-stakes production environment with a lot happening at once and only one chance to get it right.

Our Approach

We approached the night the way a media partner does — embedded in the event, planning around its rhythm, and capturing with the edit already in mind.

Pre-production and access. Press credentialing gave us the positioning we needed — runway-end angles, stage access for the competition and grant reveal, and freedom to move through the marketplace. We scouted the flow of the evening in advance so the team knew exactly where to be for each beat.

Camera and capture. We built our shooting plan around the venue’s theatrical, constantly shifting lighting — exposing for the runway, freezing motion on the walk, and capturing clean, editorial-quality frames in a difficult low-light environment. Runway looks, designer portraits, crowd reactions, vendor details, and the competition climax were each shot as distinct visual threads, with an eye toward how they’d be sequenced in the final edit.

Story-led coverage. Beyond the runway, we documented the texture of the night — the marketplace energy, the VIP touches, the faces of the designers competing for the grant — so the final imagery told the full story of why the event matters, not just what happened on the runway.

Deliverables

The shoot produced two distinct photographic deliverables, each engineered for a specific purpose:

  • Magazine-style editorial — a polished, designed photo feature that packaged the night’s best imagery into a cohesive, publication-quality story for FWD Fashion Group.
  • Social content series — 20 engaging, individually crafted posts built to perform natively on Instagram, spotlighting runway looks, designers, marketplace energy, and the grant moment.
  • Photography selects — a curated gallery of runway, designer, marketplace, and event-atmosphere stills delivered to the client and available to the competing designers for their own portfolios.

Results & Impact

The coverage didn’t just look good — it moved. Across two deliverables, the photography generated meaningful reach for FWD Fashion Group:

  • 145K+ total impressions generated across deliverables
  • 135K impressions on Instagram, driven by a series of 20 engaging posts
  • 10K impressions on the magazine-style editorial deliverable
  • A press-grade photo archive delivered to the client and made available to competing designers for their own portfolios

Why It Matters

This project sits squarely in what Dallas Media Company does best: showing up as a creative extension of a brand, in a live high-pressure environment, and walking away with imagery that does real work. Covering Autumn Renaissance meant supporting a mission we believe in — getting underrepresented designers the spotlight they’ve earned — and proving that DMC can deliver press-grade fashion photography in the DFW market.

For FWD Fashion Group, it added a polished media archive and 145K+ impressions of reach to a landmark event. For the designers, it provided portfolio assets at a pivotal moment in their careers. And for Dallas Media Company, it deepened our footprint in Dallas’s fashion and creative community.
