The Approach
Fire performance photography lives or dies on timing and light control. DMC shot the session at ACME Creation Lab in downtown Dallas, using practical fire to keep the images true to Alex’s live act rather than relying on digital effects added after the fact.
The technique centered on a slow shutter speed to trace the fire’s movement and hold onto its glow, while keeping Alex sharp and in focus throughout. That balance let the flame do the storytelling around the subject without pulling focus away from the performer.
