I’m a Dallas wedding photographer who shoots weddings often, and I love the work every time. But every now and then, a day comes along that means far more than any booking. This was one of those days.
My friend Quincy Kachete asked me to photograph his wedding. I didn’t think twice. This wasn’t a booking. It was personal.
A friendship that came full circle
I’ve known Quincy for a while now. He came to the United States as a foreign exchange student, far from home, building a life one hard step at a time. There was a season when his road ahead felt uncertain. He didn’t walk it alone. A small circle stood with him — his church, his friends, people who cared. We did what you do when someone you believe in is up against it. We helped him keep going.
So standing at his wedding, camera in hand, hit different. The same person who once faced an uncertain future was now starting a marriage with the woman he loves. That is what full circle feels like. I’m not sure I’ve ever been so glad to be holding a camera.
A wedding on their own terms
Quincy and Chiazo didn’t plan a traditional ceremony. They built the day their own way. And it was still everything a wedding should be.
Two families came together. Two stories joined into one. There was music. There was laughter. There was that quiet, electric joy you can feel in a room long before anyone says a word.
My job was simple. Stay close. Stay out of the way. Capture it honestly. No staging, no forcing moments — just being ready when the real ones arrived. The look on Quincy’s face. Chiazo, radiant. The hands, the tears, the dancing. The small in-between seconds that turn out to be the ones you remember most.
Why this DFW wedding stays with me
I’ve photographed grand openings, esports arenas, brand films, and a lot of corporate stories. I love that work. But this one is different. This one I’ll carry.
It reminded me why I picked up a camera in the first place. Not for the gear or the deliverables, but to hold onto moments that matter for the people living them. To hand someone a memory they can keep forever.
